Methadone Treatment Works In Vietnam
In Hanoi, Vietnam, the Health Ministry has reported that methadone treatment has helped to reduced frequency and dosage in heroine addicts. After six months 74 percent of the methadone users felt their physical health had improved and over 23 percent had found a job.
Over one thousand drug addicts has taken part in a methadone treatment projects since May 2008. According to the Health Ministry after only three months of the treatment there was only 18 percent of the participants using heroin, and there addicts had dropped their use to once or twice a month.
The deputy prime minister has asked the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, and War Invalids to work for helping former drug addicts to find jobs and thus integrate back to society more easily. The study was made in pilot methadone treatment projects in cities of northern Hai Phongand Ho Chi Minh.
